I (Dinet) recently had the pleasure of doing an interview with Olivia Elektra about my experiences in the music industry as a woman. Initially, like Olivia said, I had my doubts if I’d be the right person for this. It was fun to do and you can read 👇🏽more below!Initially, my next guest had doubts about whether her experiences were sufficient for an interview series focusing on misogyny in music. Well, great!It turns out, a minimal group of people I approached said they had not faced misogyny in the scene at all, ever. That answer itself is rather fascinating. Even so, Dinet Poortman, Dave Foster’s collaborator and vocalist in The Dave Foster Band, found means to explore the subject. I appreciate it greatly, Dinet!“When it comes to things like feminism, strong women wanting to express themselves, the beauty standards, and the way women are being perceived, the world of today can be a difficult one to navigate in. I mean, just look at say Ariana Grande recently. She’s being butchered on the one side for being so skinny and that she is not a good role model to girls. On the other hand, feminism is important; girls and women need to be able to stand on their own and make their own decisions. But, and here’s the f***ed-up part – these decisions and the way they behave should be in line with what society wants it to be.
